Kenefick LoungeYou will notice that the Kenfick Lounge has had a bit of a facelift with a fresh paint and construction of safer steps and ramp to meet Health and Safety Standards. The cobble path down from the hall to the road will be removed and concreted also for a H & S. and the cobbles will be transferred to make a path from the Kenefick ramp.Historically the K Lounge was a Youth Venue. We hope it will return to that use one day. Meanwhile we have asked the Tongan Community if they will assume the role of Kiatiaki (guardians) They have accepted the request knowing full well that like the Wharenui and the Falefono the K Lounge will be the primary overflow space for groups. ... Set out on your journey.Todays theme is of discipleship —its challenges, its difficulties, and its rewards. Sharing in the mission of Jesus is difficult, but everyone is called to do it. “Set out on your journey” says Jesus.Have you really set out yet?Do you see the full significance of your journey?Have you arrived? Surely not?We are all with different ages and at different stages, but all called to take our individual and collective step forward no matter how insignificant it be in our own eyes. What is your step??We don’t always know exactly. Some feel they have no idea at all. But Jesus says“Step out anyway”The logic of being sent out—going out of oneself, thinking of others, serving the world with the Good News —better responds to Jesus' original desire. “The Church is not there for itself, but for humanity” (Benedict XVI). We are not there for ourselves either.Often we tend to withdraw into our own interests, our past, our pet beliefs, our practices and customs .Stepping out is not just about passively listening to sermons from the altar, or assisting at mass, but going beyond sermons , to welcome, to heal the lives of those who suffer... only then will we find humble and good words that bring us closer to that Jesus whose unfathomable tenderness puts us in touch with God, the Good Father of all.My discipleship journey may start in my family or my group or community, but I need to step outside, forgetting my fears and self-interest, to connect with people who suffer and rejoice, struggle and work.“When you enter a house, first say,‘Peace be to this house.’”“Carry no bag, no sack, no spare sandals.”"God has created me to do him some definite service; He has committed some work to me which he has not committed to another. I have my mission; I never may know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next. I have a part in a great work; I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. He has not created me for naught. I shall do good, I shall do His work; I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place, while not intending it, if I do but keep His commandments and serve Him in my calling."( John Henry Newman) ...
